On Monday April 14th, the Ontario Government announced that it would be investing in 10 London not-for-profit and charitable organizations through the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Selected among the 10 is the Muslim Resource Centre for Social Support and Integration who thanks to this funding will increase its community impact and service delivery in the London / Middlesex area. Over the next two years, MRCSSI will be receiving $129,800 to develop and implement a Culturally Integrative Family Safety Response Model which will work with our community partners including mainstream service providers as well as offer training to human and social service staff. Featured in London Community News, MRCSSI’s Executive Director Mohammed Baobaid said he is both “very excited and grateful” for the funding through the Ontario Trillium Foundation. “This support will help us consolidate over five years of research, experience and knowledge into the development of cohesive tools and resources to reduce the gap between traditional service providers and the complex needs of families from collectivists backgrounds,” Baobaid said. “The result will be a more co-ordinated and culturally enhanced response to family violence for diverse communities.” The model will change the way mainstream agencies interact with high-risk immigrant families with a goal to early identification and de-escalation of violence. Funds are for a project co-ordinator, assistant and administration costs.
